Two different versions of Expert Controller are available:
- Expert Controller
- Expert Controller Plus.
Both versions require at least macOS 14 and either a USB, RS232 or network (tcp/ip) connection with an Expert amplifier. Network connections require a third-party network/serial adapter. See here for further information.
Both versions also include extensive support for Apple Voiceover, with both versions providing a ‘spoken’, audible amplifier status report.

Expert Controller
Expert Controller was designed for the management and control a single Expert amplifier. It supports SPE amplifiers starting with the Expert 1.3k-fa and supports the management/control of one amplifier.
Further information is available in the Support section.
Expert Controller Plus
Expert Controller Plus is a complete rewrite of Expert Controller to support the management and control of multiple Expert amplifiers simultaneously. The number of amplifier connections is only constrained by Mac performance. Testing has identified it will work comfortably with at least 10 amplifiers without significant degradation in system performance.
Expert Controller Plus supports all SPE amplifiers including the Expert 1k-fa.
Further information is available in the Support section.
So, which one do I get?
Expert Controller is available today in the Apple App Store. Expert Controller Plus is currently in a test phase (December 2025) with a full production-ready release planned for 2026.
If your amplifier is an Expert 1.3k-fa or later and you only need to manage / control one amplifier, Expert Controller would be an excellent choice. However, if you have a Expert 1k-fa or wish to manage / control multiple SPE amplifiers simultaneously, Expert Controller Plus is the version for you.
